Chapter 1494 Dark Waters Spread...
Chapter 1494 Dark Waters Spread...
Standing on top of the small floating island that had what little was left of the ancient tower on top of it, Chu Yang was about to look around for other floating islands outside of the one belonging to the ancient city ruins on the other side of the Dead Spirit Canyon-
Crack~
When a cracking sound suddenly echoed out from beneath him. Alerting him to the fact that the small floating island had begun to show signs of breaking apart.
Though surprising, it wasn't that unexpected considering that most of the ancient tower had already been destroyed and fallen into the Dead Spirit Canyon since his last visit to the secret realm.
The shocking thing came when he looked down towards the ground again and discovered that the ground that should have been beneath him had already been flooded by the dark waters of the Dead Spirit Canyon.
Not only that, but in the short time it had taken him to ascend into the sky, the dark waters of the Dead Spirit Canyon had already spread all the way the desert that was barely visible in the distance at this point in time. Meaning that his original plan of jumping down after a quick look around was no longer viable, as he would end up in the middle of the dark waters with several days of travel before, he could reach the desert.
Not to mention, he could clearly see that the boundaries of the dark waters were still expanding. Slowly encroaching into the desert and flooding it as well.
By the time he got to the desert, it would most likely already have been flooded. Making it even more difficult for him to try and figure out what direction to move in to reach the forest with the gate out of the secret realm, as he couldn't see the forest from where he was at the moment and would have to pretty much blindly guess the direction if he got to the desert and it had changed compared to the last time he had made his way through it.
Craaaack~!
However, as he heard the sound of the small island beneath his feet breaking apart even further, as part of the small island directly broke off and fell into the waters below, he understood that he wouldn't have much of a choice in another few minutes.
How in the world did the dark water end up flooding the place so fast in the first place? Are the ancient ruins ascending towards the sky perhaps a trigger for this? Did they serve some kind of function in suppressing the dark waters of the Dead Spirit Canyon?
Frowning to himself as he thought about this while looking down at the dark waters below him with a somewhat helpless expression on his face, Chu Yang decided to take what little time he had left before plummeting into the dark waters to look around for any other ancient ruins that had similarly ascended into the sky and turned into small floating islands-
"Huh? So… So many of them…"
And in the end, he discovered that outside of just the two he was already familiar with, there were hundreds- If not thousands of other small islands that had popped up all along the side of Dead Spirit Canyon with a distance of a few hundred kilometers between each of them.
The Reason he had not encountered any of them before being because the one he was on top of at the moment along with the city that stood out as unique was at the end of this line of mostly ancient towers and small buildings on the edge of the Dead Spirit Canyon.
Outside of the ones along the edge of the Dead Spirit Canyon, he also discovered several similar rows of ancient buildings and towers in the distance… And from how similar they were to the ones along the Dead Spirit Canyon, he guessed that the Dead Spirit Canyon might only be one large river out of many.
If he wasn't wrong, the other rivers similar to the one in the Dead Spirit Canyon should have also overflowed. Meaning that the dark waters would most likely not just affect the area around the Dead Spirit Canyon but could probably even submerge the entire secret realm in the dark waters.
Thinking about it. Maybe that was the reason why the gate he had first entered the secret realm through was suspended up in the air on a stone platform instead of being on the ground like the one inside the ancient city had been…
Crack-!
Lost in his own thoughts, Chu Yang was suddenly brought back to reality, as a large chunk of the island directly broke off. Reducing its size by close to ten percent in an instant, causing him to start panicking.
Now knowing that the dark waters might cover the entire secret realm, he also understood that the gate out of the secret realm that he had originally been aiming for would most likely be submerged and destroyed. Rendering his earlier plan for when he ended up in the water useless, as he would have nowhere to escape to if the entire secret realm was submerged.
"Hm? Is that… A bridge!?"
However, just when he was about to give up, he noticed a barely visible bridge made from almost translucent layers of light connected to the side of his small floating island.
Following the light bridge he had just discovered; he realized that it connected to the tower closest to his own also on the edge of the Dead Spirit Canyon.
Thud~
Cautiously touching the barely visible bridge with one of his feet, Chu Yang made sure that it was indeed solid and after a few more tests found himself standing directly on top of the barely visible bridge.
Although he had no idea about the safety of this bridge, it connected to another of the towers that looked far more stable than his own… And more importantly, it also had a fully intact little island connected to it.
Whoosh-!
For this reason, after ensuring that he could walk on the barely visible bridge of light, he didn't waste any time as he rushed off in the direction of the small tower island that it was connected to. Understanding that staying any longer on his own collapsing island would be nothing more than a death sentence.
Not to mention, he also feared staying too long might result in the bridge connecting the two floating islands disappearing, something that would completely cut off this path of escape and seal him to a fate of having to find a way out by navigating the dark waters and having to inevitably dive into said black waters in an attempt to find the gate leading out of the secret realm, something he felt was nothing short of a death sentence after feeling the countless terrifying energies that emerged from below him as the dark waters began to occupy more of the secret realm.
Thump-!
Only when he found himself on the other side of the barely visible bridge that seemed to have been made out of light, did he feel a sense of relief washing over him as if he had just survived a life and death battle.
Even more so when he saw the bridge he had been on top of start disintegrating silently without a word before disappearing a few seconds later.
Turning and looking back in the direction of the small island he had been standing on only a few seconds earlier, he quickly discovered why, as the small island had already reduced in size by half and begun plummeting towards the dark waters below-
SPLAAAASH-! n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
CHOMP-!
However, instead of the expected crash into the water that he had expected to see, a giant mouth suddenly emerged from the dark waters and swallowed the remaining bit of the tower and small island plummeting towards the dark waters before slowly retreating back beneath the surface. Returning the dark waters to their original state like nothing had happened.
"At least Dao Seed Realm…" Muttering this to himself as he finished watching what had just happened, Chu Yang could not help feeling a shiver run down his spine. Understanding that he would have likely ended up dead if he had decided to stay back at the floating island and tried to traverse the dark waters in search of the gate leading out of the secret realm.
At the very least, he is safe on top of the floating island for now.
More importantly, this floating island also seemed to be connected to other floating islands, but for now, he didn't intend to go over and see them, as the most important thing was to first explore the tower on this new floating island.
After all, it was in a far better state than the broken one he had been to before and could still have some treasures or other valuable things inside of it.
