“Mrs. Wen, what are you busy with?” Wen Chi had taken to calling Gu Huanhuan this after they got married, feeling it was his unique way of addressing her.
“Reading a script. I was planning to take a break, but my favorite director is starting a new period drama. I’ve never acted in one, so I’m really interested,” Gu Huanhuan said happily.
“As long as you enjoy it, just don’t overwork yourself,” Wen Chi smiled.
“Yeah, but I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so tired lately. Maybe I haven’t been resting well,” Gu Huanhuan murmured to herself.
“Don’t stay up late, make sure you get enough rest,” Wen Chi advised, worried she might be losing sleep again.
“Why, aren’t you going out to admire the foreign beauties?” Gu Huanhuan teased him suddenly.
“No one is more beautiful than my wife,” Wen Chi replied with a light smile.
“Smooth talker. When will you be back?” Gu Huanhuan asked, feeling a bit listless. She was really bored being alone.
“Probably in a week,” Wen Chi answered, eager to return home. Now that he was married, he really didn’t like being away.
“That feels like such a long time! By the time you’re back, I might be off to film again,” Gu Huanhuan said dejectedly.
“It’s okay. If you’re filming, I’ll come find you,” Wen Chi comforted her.
“Alright, I was just saying. You take care of your work first,” Gu Huanhuan said considerately.
They continued to exchange sweet words for a while before reluctantly ending the call.
…
Gu Huanhuan read the script for a while longer until she felt her eyelids getting heavy.
How strange, why am I still so tired? She had taken a nap in the afternoon, yet she was sleepy again.
She checked the time—it was only around 10 PM.
Normally, she was a night owl, rarely going to bed before 11 PM and even then, she often had trouble falling asleep.
She shrugged off her weariness and decided to get some rest.
The next day, Gu Huanhuan returned to her company. Sister Gao was in a meeting, discussing a new script.
Gu Huanhuan’s assistant came over, fuming. “Huanhuan, the company signed a new internet celebrity. She’s so arrogant, it’s unbearable.”
“What internet celebrity?” Gu Huanhuan asked, surprised.
“It’s Qin Wan’er. She talks in a sickeningly sweet voice and has been dubbed ‘the real-life Barbie doll’ by netizens. She draws people in with her stunning figure, adorable face, and that voice that makes your bones melt. She’s quite unique in the entertainment industry,” the assistant explained.
“If she’s really that good, it’s great that the company signed her. It means she has commercial value,” Gu Huanhuan said indifferently.
“But she’s so full of herself! She demanded the makeup artist who usually works with you. The company is giving her lots of activities to boost her exposure. They might even have her act with you soon!” the assistant said anxiously.
“It’s fine. Makeup artists are shared. I’m just used to her style, but it’s not a big deal. Don’t be upset,” Gu Huanhuan comforted her.
She completely understood the company’s actions. Anyone with commercial value would be promoted heavily.
She felt quite Zen about it all, not letting it bother her.
But just because she was indifferent didn’t mean others were. She soon found herself face-to-face with this legendary figure.
And the encounter was somewhat amusing.
