Chapter 352 Corporate Warrior
I continued to observe the three. At this point, I had already entered the elevator. I didn't want to remain idle for too long and raise suspicion.
They were being led to another room, and they could do nothing but follow. Before coming here, they were instructed to drink a heavy dosage of that suppressant pill (Downer), so their powers were heavily restricted.
Besides, I doubted that they could really do much even with their powers in full force, considering they were now being guided not just by normal humans but also Gifted individuals who were more powerful than them.
*DING
The elevator opened, and what greeted me was the Administrative Department. It differed from the one where Aiku's group was sent to.
Here, the lobby resembled normal office more closely, but instead of paintings on the walls, I noticed large flat screens with slim form. These screens displayed moving works of art, adding a touch of sophistication to the atmosphere.
The people here were predominantly dressed in black coats, and based on my memory, I could discern that these were agents actively involved in monitoring and reporting the current status and trends of the Gifted world in South Korea.
They all looked busy, offering me only a nod whenever they saw me. Likewise, I returned the gesture and acted snobbish, blending in with their demeanor.
No wonder they were able to control information about the Gifteds all this time. The sheer number of people and the budget allocated for Cerebrum were astronomical.
It could be said that without this organization, order on Earth would collapse.
"Director Joon, you're back!" A woman with brown hair and eyes approached me. The real Joon had mentioned her; she was his assistant.
I had to act more natural in front of her. But at the same time, I couldn't help but sigh in disappointment at that Joon guy manliness. Looking at her closely, I could confirm she had a charisma level of 10+, even without using my Mind Eye. She was even more stunning than the stewards I had just fucked.
She was the kind of girl who could awaken a man's deepest desires. If she were my real assistant, it would probably take me an hour, at most, before I completely lost myself. Scratch that, maybe even 10 minutes would be too generous.
I mean, look at her. She was wearing a formal attire, but her skin and curves could go toe-to-toe with a model. At the same time, her brown eyes looked genuinely gentle and sweet.
Alas, she was Joon's niece. They weren't blood-related in any way, but she was his nephew's wife. So, their relationship outside of work was more like uncle and niece.
Talk about a weakling. Why should he care if she was his nephew's wife? Everything was fair game with me.
Remembering all of this, I made a mental note to get super close to her while I'm here.
"Yeah," I nodded
"How was the trip?"
"Nothing eventful," I replied with a smile.
"Any important news?" I asked casually changing the topic. During the trip, members weren't allowed to get the latest news to prevent leaks.
As an assistant, she was required to stay in this place for two months, so she should have some information that wasn't too top-secret.
"Oh, Director Joon, there's been talk about the United States Branch failing to capture Code Name: Zely. Apparently, they took quite a hit and are now looking to us for extra compensation," she replied.
"Code Name Zely?" I asked. It wasn't part of the information I had gathered from the Jeju Island representatives .
"Sorry, I forgot you haven't been updated. It's the new code given to that girl with telekinesis powers. According to the US branch, she goes by the name Zely," she added.
'Zely?…Interesting,' I muttered to myself.
I had a general idea about this Zely person. Like me, she could also use telekinesis and was said to be from the Zol Bloodline. If that's the case, then she must be a very evil person, unlike me who was kind and generous .
"I see ," I replied with a nod, maintaining a composed demeanor, and continue to walked until I reached another area .
"Director Joon, I will stay here," she stop walking, but I just ignored her.
This area was special, and she could not just enter without permission.
Even with my director status, I couldn't make an exception. In this place, being called a director was just a title. The person I copied wasn't that high up the ladder; that's why he was the one sent to Seoul as a lackey.
He acted arrogantly in the Seoul Branch because he was frustrated. Despite years of working for Cerebrum, his status wasn't enough, leading to his discontent.
'I want to finish this already,'
Now that I'm finally close to completing the initial part of my plan, all I need to do was deliver this useless thing in my hands. After that, I can slowly figure out the defense mechanisms in this place.
Using my abilities here without enough information would only lead me to unnecessary trouble, and I could not afford to be discovered yet because my Mind power was still restricted.
That was the plan, however—
'I got cut off?' I paused for a moment, noticing that I had entered an area where my Mind Link was actually severed. There was something in this location that interfered with my signal.
'This barrier is different from the one in Seoul,' I analyzed. I had been able to detect the barrier in Seoul, but this one remained hidden until I stepped inside it.
It was a shocking discovery, but I did not show it on my face and remained calm. This place had a lot of CCTV cameras, and for all I knew, I was being secretly monitored.
Aiku's group would have to wait until I reconnected with them. I doubted they would be put in immediate danger. In the worst-case scenario, they would likely be held in confinement first.
Finally, I reached the place where I was supposed to deliver the Varium. It turned out to be another meeting room. I had hoped to see the main person in charge of this place, but it seemed almost impossible to arrange such encounter.
I had to gain control of his underlings first before I could even think of forcing him to meet me.
'It's a real struggle being a corporate warrior,' I sighed to myself, contemplating the daily challenges of corporate hierarchy.
