Nightmare Assault

Chapter 260: Good Man

Chapter 260: Good Man

“Is there something wrong with that woman?” Jiang Cheng stayed close to Zuo Qing. He looked like a scared deer. He pulled on Zuo Qing’s arm, “So scary.”

“The mission has just started, so it is relatively safe. We should use this time to gather more clues.” A rough voice said. It was You Qi. He looked around as if trying to memorise everything in his mind.

“Did you hear what they called us earlier?” Shi Liaozhi lowered his voice to say, “They called us Dafu. That means doctors.”

Qin Jian nodded. “It looks like that shall be our identity for this mission. Plus, have you noticed that the woman said the young master was still resting and we’d be invited later to check his pulse? That means this young master is our patient.” Experienced travellers like them were used to role-playing. With each new mission, the players would be given a new role. They had to use this role to understand the clues and find the way to live.

“There’s one more thing. She said the rooms would have everything we need, and they are according to our preference…” Qin Jian frowned. “How would she know that?”

“There’s only one explanation.” Zuo Qing silently shoved away Jiang Cheng, who was getting grabby and said, “We’ve been here before. Or rather, our characters have been here before.”

An Xuan scratched his chin and added, “However, we failed to treat the young master when we were here last.”

Fatty looked around and asked, “What kind of illness requires ten doctors?” No one answered him. However, based on Elder Huang’s wealth, the illness must be serious, or he would have already been healed.

“Could… the way to clear the mission be to cure the young master?” You Qi suddenly said, “Once the young master is healed, we can leave.”

People felt that it was improbable. After all, this mission had ten travellers. The difficulty had to be sky-high. The eldest among them, Qin Jian, sighed, “If only it’s a physical illness. I fear this young master… has a mental illness.”

As he said that, there was a boom. Thunder soared through the sky. Then, the sky darkened visibly. The short conversation ended. Everyone became more concerned with the sleeping arrangements. There were three rooms close to the lake. Based on the woman’s words, that would be where they’d be staying.

The rain poured. An Xuan suggested they split into three groups. Each group would have a newbie so that the experienced travellers could look after them.

“Since we know there’s going to be danger, why don’t we stay together?” Tang Shirou said weakly. The sudden thunder caused her face to go pale. She hugged her arms, hoping for someone to console her.

“We have to follow the NPC’s words as closely as possible. One of the three rooms might have a clue to solve the mission,” An Xuan’s voice was gentle. With his handsome look, he was very approachable. “Miss Tang,” An Xuan smiled kindly, “If you don’t mind, why don’t you stay with me?”

The sudden kindness surprised Tang Shirou. As a newbie, she could feel everyone brushing her off. They didn’t care about her. However, An Xuan was different. He was easygoing. He wasn’t as brash as the others when talking to her. He was so reliable that she just wanted to say yes.

As she opened her lips, another voice cut in. “Brother An, bring me with you!” Jiang Cheng shouted from a distance away, “I’m young and easy to fool.”

An Xuan’s expression froze.

In the end, the groups were An Xuan, Qin Jian, You Qi and Tang Shirou; Zuo Qing, Shi Liaozhi and Chen Qiang; Xia Meng, Fatty and Jiang Cheng.

Actually, Jiang Cheng wanted to get into An Xuan’s group. He was denied. Then, he turned to Zuo Qing. Zuo Qing ignored him. In the end, it was Fatty who took him in.

An Xuan’s group took the largest room that had the best view. Zuo Qing’s group chose the room on the left. Thus, Jiang Cheng’s group was left with the right room, the room that looked the oldest.

The room didn’t give off a comforting feeling. However, Jiang Cheng bounced over happily. He looked so carefree. Once the door closed, the rain became heavier. It landed on the roof tiles and made a lot of noise. It even contained a small hail.

Since they knew each other, Fatty stopped acting. He went to Jiang Cheng, “Doctor, is there a problem with An Xuan?”

Jiang Cheng opened the window and turned his head back, “Why would you say that?”

“Nothing. It just feels weird.” Fatty scratched his head. “He looks clever and sharp. Why would he grab the arm of the woman who led us here? Isn’t he afraid of trouble?”

“That’s why he needs an obedient scapegoat by his side!” Xia Meng said with derision, “Why else would he get Tang Shirou to stay with him?”

There was a teapot on the table. She tried it with her fingers. The water was warm. Xia Meng poured herself a cup of water. She took a sip. She glanced out the window and smiled mysteriously, “Newbies are very precious, especially in a dangerous mission.”

Fatty understood it immediately. Tang Shirou was An Xuan’s insurance. If he were attacked by a ghost, he’d push Tang Shirou out to die. After all, based on previous experience, most ghosts would only kill one person at a time.

“The important thing is Brother An is very understanding,” Jiang Cheng sighed with appreciation, “He is kind enough to give each group a scapegoat newbie. That way, we won’t argue among ourselves.

“What a kind and understanding man!”
