Chapter 378: Terrance vs Elite Four Phoebe
Drifloon’s timing was impeccable. Whether it was the subtle shifts in air currents, the exact moment the opponent descended, or even how their movements altered the air currents—Drifloon grasped it all with absolute clarity.
Terrance’s pupils contracted. In his view, this Drifloon couldn’t have been trained for more than a year.
Yet its mastery over air currents felt as though it had been training for years.
“This Drifloon’s talent in perceiving air currents rivals, if not surpasses, that of Beautifly,” Terrance could not but admit.
No wonder Phoebe chose to send out a non-main Pokémon that hasn’t even fully matured for battle. Against an average Trainer, relying on her expertise with Ghost-Type Pokémon and remarkable mastery of air currents was more than sufficient.
“Drifloon, Shadow Ball,” Phoebe commanded softly.
Mid-air, Houndoom’s leaping Bite attack struck emptiness, releasing a shockwave. Within that shockwave, Drifloon floated effortlessly, like a fish swimming through water. In a blink, a dense, shadowy energy coalesced into a Shadow Ball, its trajectory precise as it targeted a specific point along Houndoom’s descent.
Boom, boom, boom, boom!
Terrifying energy fluctuations spread out. Houndoom let out a pained groan as it was blasted away. Seeing Houndoom’s condition, everyone froze in shock.
“Shadow Ball isn’t supposed to work well against Dark-type Pokémon, is it?”“But why…”
“Its power far exceeds that of a normal Shadow Ball. There must be some unique training involved,” Terrance concluded immediately.
It was hard to believe that Drifloon could unleash such a powerful move and with seemingly little effort.
“The Shadow Ball training method exclusive to an Elite Four. Her title of Ghost-Type Master is well-deserved.”
“However… Drifloon’s prediction is equally astonishing.”
The first challenger was swiftly defeated, so quickly that even he couldn’t believe it. After all, he had been a Trainer traveling for three years. Was he truly this weak against an Elite Four?
“Interesting.” Terrance instinctively considered stepping onto the arena but was stopped by the uniformed young man.
“Leave it to me. I’ve already figured out how to deal with it,” the young man said with a confident smile, as though victory was within his grasp.
Terrance shrugged. “Suit yourself.”
After defeating one challenger, Phoebe showed no joy. Even as the next challenger stepped forward, her expression remained devoid of excess emotion.
Her focus was entirely on Drifloon.
“Go, Slowbro!”
The young man stepped forward and sent out his Pokémon.
“In terms of type, it’s hard to say who has the upper hand,” commented one of the watching Trainers.
“But Master Phoebe will definitely win.”
The uniformed young man commanded Slowbro to use Confusion. The powerful Confusion wave swept out, locking onto Drifloon. However, Phoebe didn’t show a hint of panic. Just as the light ray of Confusion touched Drifloon, a terrifying hurricane suddenly whipped up around it. Slowbro looked momentarily dazed, feeling as if the Confusion wave had become trapped in a quagmire and was no longer under its control.
The Confusion wave between Drifloon and Slowbro was blocked by this move!
“Slowbro?” the young man exclaimed in surprise.
“If that’s the case, use Psychic!” Gritting his teeth, the uniformed youth quickly commanded. Slowbro, no longer attempting to control Confusion, unleashed a burst of psychic energy. A powerful Psywave surged forward, seemingly intent on forcibly breaking through the bizarre storm. However…
The “Ominous Wind,” under the control of Drifloon, began to dance along with its body. In an instant, it condensed, resembling a black dragon as it swirled. It directly broke through Psychic, and then, it immediately followed with Payback!
A sudden surge of Dark-type energy, accompanied by Ominous Wind, struck Slowbro with immense force. Just like Houndoom, it was knocked out in a single hit.
The young man held his Poké Ball in disbelief, unable to accept the outcome.
“Why couldn’t Confusion or Psychic touch it…?”
“Is it over already?” Terrance chuckled. For someone like Phoebe, a Ghost-Type Master, it was only natural that she would have unique methods to counter Psychic Type and even Dark Type, which are effective against Ghost Type.
Since they weren’t on the same level as Trainers, trying to rely on type advantage was nothing more than showing off in front of an expertn/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Only one challenger left,” The watching Trainers looked towards the battle arena, their tone suggesting they had seen this coming. “Boring. They’re no match for Master Phoebe at all. If I can’t challenge her myself, I’d rather just watch replays of the Elite Four matches.”
“Yeah, the next challenger looks even weaker than the first two.”
Chisana, standing among the crowd, heard the remark and felt a surge of anger. He wanted to retort, but remembering Terrance’s advice, he could only fume silently.
“That’s not true at all! Brother Terrance is way stronger than all of you!”
As the young man in uniform stepped aside, Terrance approached the arena.
He’s even younger than the previous two challengers…
Phoebe smiled faintly as she faced him and said, “Send out your Pokémon.”
“I’m Terrance from Fallarbor Town. But before that, Master Phoebe, don’t you plan on switching Pokémon? Drifloon must have used up a lot of its stamina by now.”
Terrance first introduced himself politely, following proper battle etiquette, then continued calmly, “If I win under these circumstances, it wouldn’t be a fair victory.”
The crowd erupted in an uproar.
The seemingly mild-mannered young boy had just uttered such arrogant words, instantly provoking laughter among the gathered Trainers.
“He actually thinks he can defeat an Elite Four?!”
“Hahaha! A little brat younger than me talking such nonsense!”
At first, some thought the challengers might put up a fight against an Elite Four member. But the crushing defeats of the first two challengers had made it clear just how vast the gap was between an ordinary Trainer and the Elite Four.
“If it’s this Drifloon, though… Leaving aside that it hasn’t been trained for long and isn’t one of Phoebe’s main Pokémon, the skills it used in the previous battles—the key to defeating its opponents—were all based on manipulating air currents. And that happens to be Beautifly’s specialty as well,” Terrance thought to himself.
There was no reason to lose.
Even if the opponent was an Elite Four.
Moreover, Drifloon had already fought two battles.
Terrance looked at Phoebe with a serious expression, as though stating a simple fact.
Since the same Pokémon had already been used in two battles, it would only be natural to switch it. Besides, Terrance didn’t think defeating a newly raised Pokémon belonging to an Elite Four member was anything to brag about, so he made this suggestion as soon as he stepped onto the arena.
“You’ve got guts,” Phoebe said with a smile. “But I won’t be switching Pokémon. If you think you can win, then give it your all.”
Phoebe’s assistant looked speechless as they looked at the boastful Trainer. How could he possibly think he could defeat Madam Phoebe?
