Chapter 306. Impolite II
Dragon King's Harem Chapter 306. Impolite II
I shifted my gaze toward the balcony and locked eyes with Prince Naganthor and Evelyn. The intensity of my stare was clear—no way was I okay with being scrutinized like this. It felt invasive, borderline disrespectful. Monitoring a king’s every move? That’s a clear overstep of boundaries, to say the least.
Watching me so closely made me suspicious. Were they looking for weaknesses? Plotting something? I didn’t know their motives, but I wasn’t about to let it slide. My glare stayed fixed, silently daring them to explain themselves.
It didn’t take long for them to pick up on my disapproval. They both lowered their heads in silent apology. When they looked back up, guilt was written all over their faces. I raised my hand, making the universal "I’m watching you" gesture—two fingers pointing at my eyes—making it crystal clear I wasn’t amused. The message was simple: cut it out, especially here in the palace. It’s rude, and frankly, it raises questions about their intentions.
They bowed again, their remorse obvious. I turned away. Hopefully, they got the point—this wasn’t the kind of behavior I’d tolerate.
Evelina caught up to me, her voice soft and apologetic. “Sorry for making you wait,” she said, her tone warm. Behind her, a servant followed, carrying a tray with two elegant goblets filled with a shimmering drink. With a graceful nod, she handed one to me. “Your Majesty,” she added, her eyes kind and sincere.
I took the goblet with a slight smile of gratitude. We raised our drinks in an unspoken toast to the calm evening and sipped. The drink was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy, a refreshing companion to our peaceful stroll.
The servants quietly disappeared, leaving us to wander the garden in peace. The rustling leaves and distant laughter from other courtyards created a soothing atmosphere. Evelina and I walked side by side, our steps unhurried, our hands brushing until our fingers naturally intertwined. It felt comforting, grounding.
Our tranquility didn’t last long. Evelyn appeared, walking toward us alone. She bowed respectfully before speaking. “Your Majesty, I apologize for the intrusion,” she began, her voice tinged with regret. “I couldn’t help but watch you and Evelina. I realize it wasn’t the most discreet behavior.”
Evelina tilted her head, puzzled. “Evelyn, why were you watching us from the balcony?”
Evelyn hesitated, then replied, “I… I wanted to talk to you, Your Majesty.”
“To me?” I repeated, raising an eyebrow. “If you wanted to talk, you could’ve approached us directly. No need to spy from afar.”
“I know,” Evelyn admitted, her voice quieter now. “But I wanted to consult with you privately.”
I frowned, caught off guard by her request. “Just me and you?” I asked, skepticism creeping into my tone. This wasn’t exactly proper. Being alone with Evelyn—especially since I was married to her sister—wasn’t something that aligned with palace etiquette.
Evelina glanced at me, clearly just as uncertain. We both understood the unspoken rules here. Meeting Evelyn privately, without someone like her betrothed, Prince Naganthor, present could easily spark rumors. And from what I’d seen earlier, her private chat with Naganthor suggested some kind of agreement had been reached.
“Yes,” Evelyn said, her bow deep and respectful.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Evelina’s brows knitted in confusion. “Why?” she asked, her concern evident.
Evelyn stepped back slightly, putting a bit of distance between us. “I promise I won’t get close or touch the king,” she assured us quickly. “I just want to say a few things. I’ll keep my distance.”
Evelina and I exchanged another look, our curiosity growing. I turned my attention back to Evelyn. “Does Naganthor know about this?”
Evelyn nodded. “He knows, Your Majesty.”
“What about Father?” Evelina asked, her concern now shifting to their father.
Evelyn shook her head sadly. “You know how impossible it is to get his permission. I’m adopted, after all.”
I couldn’t help but interject. “Being adopted doesn’t change your right to speak your mind, Evelyn. You shouldn’t let that hold you back.”
She lowered her gaze, her silver hair falling like a curtain over her face. “I understand what you mean, Your Majesty. But Father won’t give me the chance. This might be my only opportunity to talk to you. I don’t know when—or if—I’ll get another chance.”
For a moment, neither Evelina nor I said anything. There was a weight to Evelyn’s plea that stirred a bit of sympathy in me, and Evelina seemed equally conflicted.
After a brief pause, I sighed. “Fine, we can talk. But…” I reached for my Dimensional Ring, summoning a small crystal from its storage. This wasn’t an ordinary crystal—it was enchanted, capable of recording conversations and interactions. “I’ll be recording everything we say and do,” I said, holding the crystal up for her to see.
