Chapter 687 The Race
The sounds of the hooves echoed far and wide since all of them were running at a great speed.
There was a narrow path that was covered with smooth pieces of stones for the smooth travel of the carriage. However, since there weren't any houses or other structures in between the castle and the town, there was plenty of unpaved open space alongside the paved path.
And since everyone was racing alongside each other, the whole area was covered with dust that rose up from the ground.
Ariel caught up to Zach in no time since she was running at the front from the beginning. "If anyone loses the hair tonight, it will be you, Zach." She smiled at Zach and then surpassed him.
Zach raised his bottom from the saddle and then raced his horse at a greater speed. He shouted when he was almost close to catching up with Ariel, "I never said that I would go bald if anyone of you wins. But I will gladly do that if Damien wins."
Kenneth's horse was now running side-by-side with Zach's. He glanced at Zach and said with a smile, "Then I will do you a favor by winning this race." He then went forward than Zach. It looked as if he would surpass Ariel soon.
"Let's see how well you will keep that promise, Kenny," Damien's horse zoomed past Zach's like wind and then caught up with Kenneth in no time.
Kenneth glared at Damien. The demon was giving an evil smirk to him. He looked like he was going to win the race just so he could see everyone shave their heads.
Kenneth also gave a sly smirk to Damien and asked him, "Are you saying that you will win this race? Does that mean you don't care if Ariel also has to shave her hair?"
Damien's eyes glowed red for a second. He beat Kenneth and shouted from ahead, "Don't worry, Kenny. If I will be the winner then I will be the one to choose who shaves their heads and who doesn't."
"My name's not Kenny!" Kenneth shouted while chasing after Damien.
Damien smiled to himself and shouted back, "It is from now on, Kenny."
Kenneth clenched his jaw and screamed, "Then you are… Demmy!"
"Fine by me! I love both of your nicknames." Zach caught up with Kenneth and said with a grin. He winked at Kenneth and teased him, "Hi, Kenny!"
Kenneth frowned a little and said in a complaining tone, "Not you too, Zachariah!"
"Ooh!" Zach grinned and said, "Someone called me by my full name. He must be really angry at me." And he led his horse forward, and shouted as he ran, "I better run and save myself from the wrath."
While the four of them were ahead in the race, the twins were a little behind.
Niylah looked at her brother and said in a sad voice, "Brother, we are going to lose at this rate. I don't want to shave my head."
Ramon glanced at his lock of curls that was stuck between his brows. He also wasn't going to shave such beautiful curls from his head.
He looked ahead and saw that Ariel was indisputably in the lead. So he reassuringly said to his sister, "Don't worry, Ny. I'm sure Ariel will win. She is ahead of everyone else. This race was unfair for us from the beginning. We were already riding behind everyone else."
However, Niylah suddenly looked terrified and at the same time, she looked like she was going to cry.
Ramon turned to look at the front again. "Oh shit!" she mumbled because he saw Damien crossing Ariel and running at the front.
Ariel was also in shock when Damien ran past her. "Damien! Slow down!" she shouted to distract him from the race.
But Damien was too focused on winning. So he replied without turning his head, "I can't. I have to win." He also added to reassure Ariel, "Don't worry. I won't ask you to cut a single strand of your hair."
"I won't, even if you ask me to. My hair is too precious," Ariel pouted. She saw the huge welcome gate of the Murkymber Town a little further ahead.
She turned her head to see Kenneth who was just a little behind her. And she asked him, "Where are we stopping our horses again?"
"You see that red barn near the gate, yeah? That's where we will be stopping," Kenneth answered her.
Ariel narrowed her eyes at her target and made the horse pick up the pace. And when she got closer to Damien again, she claimed, "You aren't winning this race, I am. So, don't worry about my hair."
Damien glanced at Ariel and smiled. "You know I like the neck-to-neck challenges." And he also kept on racing alongside her.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
The twins were also slowly but surely catching up to Kenneth and Zach.
As they kept on racing, the gaps between the pairs of neck-to-neck competitors became permanent. Ariel and Damien were going back and forth on winning the race.
Kenneth and Zach would take over one another but only for a short period of time. And no matter how hard they raced, they couldn't catch up with those two at the forefront.
And the twins were at the last, but ahead of all the guards.
The red barn was getting bigger and bigger in view by the second.
Now that they were getting closer towards the ending of the race, it seemed that the winner would be either Ariel or Damien.
Damien was imagining the look on Kenneth's face when he would have to shave his blond hair. And he thought to himself with a wide smile on his face, "I'm going to win this just to see him bald."
He then finally lifted himself up from the saddle and leaned forward. And he shouted, "Everyone, get ready to gloriously lose to this demon lord."
Damien's horse took off faster than ever before. There was a considerable gap between Ariel and him. It was now almost decided that Damien would win the race.
And someone shouted from behind, "Nooooooooo!"
